480 million eggs have been recalled in an effort to stem the outbreak of salmonella, which has caused illness to more than 2,000 people to date. The outbreaks have been traced to in-shell eggs from both Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms, located in Iowa.
The following brands have been recalled:
Salmonella can cause fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, which last on average between four to seven days.
This is one of the largest egg recalls in history. According to William Hubbard, the former FDA Associate Commissioner, he believes the investigation is nowhere near complete.
