Baby Fatally Wounded By Rottweiler ~

According to a news report by a reporter with the Houston Chronicle, a three-month old baby girl was tragically mauled to death by one of her family's nine dogs - a Rottweiler. (The other eight dogs are Rottweilers and mixed-breed dogs.)

The attack occurred while her mother was bathing another one of the dogs in the bathroom. Her mother heard a dog barking and went into the living room where her daughter had been placed in a baby swing. Apparently, she found her young child lying lifeless on the floor, bloody, her hands mangled and her head crushed. This is a mother's worst nightmare and we can only imagine the immeasurable pain that the infant's mother, Alva Vaughn, must be enduring.

This incident is a sad reminder of how lethal a dog bite attack can be. I posted a blog this past week about dog bites, which lists the precautions we must take to ensure our safety.Dog Vicious.jpg

Dog Bite Injuries In San Diego ~

Dog Vicious.jpgHave you or a loved one been the victim of a dog bite attack? Experiencing a vicious dog bite attack can be an extremely traumatic experience which may cause severe and long-lasting injuries.

What Should You Do After A Dog Bite Attack?

Seek medical treatment promptly. A dog bite may pose a serious risk of infection. Therefore, contact a doctor immediately for treatment. If the bite is serious and you or a loved one are in immediate medical distress, call an ambulance or go to an emergency room or urgent care facility as quickly as possible.

Identify the dog that bit you. Identify the dog that attacked you and determine how the dog owner can be located. The dog owner is the responsible party in a dog bite situation, and the dog owner's home insurance company is usually the entity that will pay for a dog bite injury.

Report the dog bite attack. Report the dog bite attack to your local county animal control agency or sheriff's department. Provide them with information about the dog, including the owner's name and address. If the dog is a stray, describe the appearance of the dog and the location of the attack.

Take photos of the dog bite injuries. Take photographs of all visible injuries, including lacerations and wounds. Also, take photos of any torn or bloody clothing. If possible, take photographs of the dog itself and where the bite occurred.

If you or a loved one is seriously injured or killed by a dog, you will need an experienced dog bite attorney to navigate the legal system for you, to ensure your family's financial future and health is kept intact.

CPSC Approves New Crib Safety Standards To Ensure A Safe Sleep For Babies & Toddlers ~

serenity-crib.jpg-m.jpgThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has voted unanimously to approve new mandatory standards for full-size and non-full-size baby cribs as mandated by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). The federal crib standards hadn't been updated in almost 30 years, so the new rules are expected to help create a safer generation of cribs.

Effective June 2011, cribs manufactured, sold, or leased in the United States must comply with the new federal standards. Effective 24 months after the rule is published, child care facilities, such as family child care homes and infant Head Start centers, and places of public accommodation, such as hotels and motels, must have compliant cribs in their facilities.

Once effective, the mandatory crib standards will: (1) stop the manufacture and sale of dangerous, traditional drop-side cribs; (2) make crib hardware more durable; (3) make mattress supports stronger; and (4) make safety testing more rigorous.

The CPSC has recalled more than 11 million dangerous cribs since 2007. The detaching drop-side rails were associated with at least 32 infant suffocation and strangulation deaths since 2000. Additional deaths were caused by faulty or defective hardware. The new standards aim to keep babies safe and prevent tragedy.

For more information on crib safety and safe sleep environments for babies, visit the CPSC's crib information center at: www.cpsc.gov/info/cribs/index.html.

L.L. Bean Recall ~ Folding Camp Rockers

L.L. Bean and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have just announced a voluntary recall of folding camp rockers (which have a fabric cover and a steel frame). Consumers are urged to stop using the rockers, because the plastic anchors attaching the fabric seat back to the frame can break, posing a fall hazard.LL Bean Rocker.jpgRocker chairs with the number RNR113 and RNR114 listed on the white tag under the seat are included in the recall. However, folding camp rockers with fabric anchors are not included in this recall.

The chairs were sold exclusively at L.L.Bean stores nationwide, llbean.com, and through the L.L.Bean catalog from April 2009 through July 2010 for about $50.
